Willa Cather is an afghan, beautifully knitted in warm colors; before an open fire of snapping oak and sweet, sweet cedar.

I recently completed The Song of the Lark, which is only my second Cather novel. One can read and learn at her feet, so to speak, of the art of writing. I had trouble completely liking her all the time, but prehaps Thea isn’t meant to be liked. Willa Cather’s starring ladies are like cats, they don’t care if you like them.

Part of the story references the green lions outside the Chicago Art Institute and bears the name of a painting therein….The Song of the Lark. What a treat go walk in Thea’s fictional shoes and stand before the painting myself. Pictured above. Pictured below are other treasures of the Art Institute that caught my eye.
