This morning, per request of my mom in law, I made pancakes. The Swiss were obliging. So we had boiled eggs and bread, butter and jam, meat and cheese, fruit, fruit salad…and pancakes. How’s that for a blend of culture. The day proved to include even more culture. We went out tonight for authentic Chinese food. Not the General Tso familiar fare on fried rice with one fortune cookie, thank you very much come again soon. This was the real deal. Ok, minus chicken feet…and no cow’s stomach. I had a dumpling, another dumpling-like thing, four or five pieces of this wonderful fried bread-like substance. Rice, meat, chesnuts that were thick and chewy, soup with black seaweed(I put out the seaweed) and tofu, tea and these amazing meat and cucumber wraps made with a naan-like shell. And my years of drawing, thus fine-tuning the muscles in my hand, paid off and I ate a plate using chop sticks. :)

Marie-Louise and I walked the dog this morning. There is an art gallery within walking distance–free of charge. We stopped by and found the hours of operation. I plan to go sometime. That will be good fodder for the blog, eh?

Today we all went out to an old industrial place that has been turned into an art district. There was a big food market, piles of fruit, flowers, a bakery. We were right on an inlet of the ocean, called False Creek. We took one of those cute little tourist boats and motored around. The driver said he was once out on the water and a wale came right by him–three times as long as his boat!

And then the shop. Thee shop. One of a kind…. No, my fellow Americans, there is no hope of you finding this shop in your territory. Any of you Design Sponge/Anthropologie junkies out there… ah… prepare yourself.

Look at those cut-out pillows!
