Originally I had a plan to do a Curious George book cover for this painting. Then, for reasons that may become obvious and shall not be explained now–watch your comments those of you who figure it out-no telling!– it occurred to me to use material from Where the Wild Things Are. How many of you artists learned to draw, partly, from copying Disney illustrations? Well, you don’t have to grow out of copying other people’s art. :) Now, ask me how I’m going–or if I’m going– to achieve the details of his work with oil paint?

Here’s the painting thus far. A loverly gallery canvas purchased intentionally. Does the baby have a swing? A hamper? An Activity Mat? No, no. But will he have a gallery canvas above his crib? Priorities for the little man.

Sawaya left for VA today, where he is performing his Internal Medicine Rotation and staying on call for a wife in labor. :)

Brooke-bless her–hosted the first at her house, we had a nice showing. She decorated in Curious George, children’s books around, containers of candy. Pictures of gifts to come later. We had four babies there, all boys, and three babies on the way.

This morning was my work shower, hosted in the house. Lora and Megan did a good job making it special. Lora’s diaper cake was great, the food was yummy. Lora’s house is decorated and worthy of a magazine photo shoot.

Tomorrow, I have to go back to work. Nice having a dependable job. But it is an office, with a  headset and a telephone and a computer screen in front of me. And the same chair for 8 hours. Maybe if i’d worked harder, I could be a full time artist and not an office worker, but as it stands…

This evening I have a project for my mom to work on and maybe I’ll have time to work on my new crafting attempt. Hurray :) Here are some snaps of last weekend, and products from this Friday. Lora and I went to a pottery/art Christmas show. The house was lovely. We came away each with a mug and another piece. Pictured is Lora’s purchase and my mug and bowl.

Anyway, here’s a sketch–yes that is the church bulletin. And my crib fabric! And the ikea canopy I’m going to get.

To conclude: follow the follwing.

Freezer Carmel Pie *bet this name never won an award, although the pie may have*

• 2 9-inch prepared graham cracker crusts *the lids come in handy, make sure you keep them*
• 6 Tablespoons of butter
• 1 7 oz package of shredded coconut
• 1 cup chopped pecans
• 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
• 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
• 1 16 oz container frozen whipped topping, thawed
• 1 16 oz jar caramel ice cream topping

Directions

1. Place butter in a medium skillet and melt over medium heat. Add coconut and pecans, stirring to coat. Saute until coconut and pecans are lightly toasted, about 5 minutes. Set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, whip together condensed milk and cream cheese until fluffy. Fold in whipped topping. Spoon 1/4 of cream cheese mixture into each graham cracker crust. Drizzle each with 1/4 of caramel topping. Repeat layers with remaining cream cheese mixture and caramel. Top each pie with coconut and pecan mixture. Freeze overnight.

Another year with the Crooks at the Indie Craft Parade. I went in the mind to look for a monster doll, but I dont’ know know if the lady that was there last year was there this year… anyhow, I did not come away empty handed, but came away with a couple of prints from Cory Godbey, including The Golden Apple which you can take a peek at here.

Anyway, we met Ian Brooke and Oliver at their house, piled in their car, grabbed some free chic fil a: ), saw piles of home-grown goodness, and chilled in Starbucks. Here’s some snaps. Blog Readers, you may be wondering where the painting has disappeared to. Hm. I’ve been on the same painting for months (i do have an update on it however). I’ve a project my mom wants me to do. Yeah, it’s still in the brain. Maybe my creativity is being absorbed in the little kicking fellow in my tummy. Oh, yes, he is a fellow if anyone was still in the dark. :)

Hurray for Labor Day!

Saturday, plate of eggs and grits, husband in the lazy boy, also with eggs and grits, golf on tv. I made a “non negotiable” to do list yesterday… cleaning the bathroom, etc. I won a contest at work that included a P.F. Chang’s gift card for $50. Hence, last night I visited P.F.’s for the first time. We ordered a forty dollar meal for two–egg drop soup, lettuce wraps -Sawaya wouldn’t go for the crab wontons *sigh*- sesame chicken with brown rice, and a mini triple chocolate mousse.  Granted, the resturant was nice, the food was well prepared, the waiter was friendly…. but when all is said and done, I can still get a great chinese fix with a plastic tray of General Tso’s and a hot egg roll. And now are you wondering how I’m eating eggs and grits. Darlin’ this pregnant lady can put away some food.

After food, Sawaya came along to Art & Light for a First Friday tour. Saw some good art–Sawaya was captivated by an impressionistic exhibit of street scenes, believe it or not! The man who fusses at my brush strokes–you can see the brush stroke in the paint-it’s not smooth. Maybe he’s growing a little. :) Joey Bradley had some stuff I hadn’t seen, including a deer head with antlers with birds perched on them. What a piece for the head of a table in a dining room– dare I suggest, a dining room with coral walls? With a soup tureen and white bowls and a platter of thick bread. And a chandelier. *sigh*

For now, I’m going to put on make up and clean the bathroom–one does not necessitate the other. :) Later, Leopard Forest with the honey. He’s got studying, I’ve gotta work on work.
